Prehistory

創作の起点：デザインではなく、「着物」そのものと向き合う。

The starting point: engaging with the kimono itself, not the design.

Marumi dressの創作において、常に起点となるのは「あらかじめ決められたドレスのデザイン」ではありません。主役はどこまでも、その着物が持つ「種類（格や染め）」や「素材」そのものです。

The starting point in our creative process is never a predetermined dress design. The protagonist is always the kimono itself — its type, dignity, dyeing, and material.

活動を始めた当初、私たちは特定のモデルに縛られることなく、「自分が着てみたい」と思う形へと自由に着物を仕立て直していました。Instagramに掲載している初期の作品群も、色、素材、種類が全く異なる様々な着物から生まれています。

When we first began, we freely reimagined kimono into whatever form we felt drawn to wear — unconstrained by any fixed template. The early works on our Instagram were each born from kimono with completely different colors, materials, and styles.

当時は特定のモデルのために着物を購入するのではなく、まず手元にある着物と向き合い、その個性を最大限に活かすデザインを一点一点、一から考えていました。だからこそ、たとえ「和」が前面に出ていなくとも、その着物にとって最も調和の取れた、美しく自然な一着に仕上がるのだと信じています。

We did not choose kimono to fit a model; instead, we met each kimono where it was and thought from scratch about how to best reveal its essence. That is why, even when “Japanese style” is not immediately apparent, every piece achieves a harmony and naturalness that feels entirely its own.
